One of the most frequently asked questions I get from friends starting a business when they decide put up a website and to work at home is "Just how do I put video on a Website?"

There are two ways you can go to get you some basic capability.

The first and most versatile is to produce your own. This is also the most difficult ... but much easier than it use to be. Producing your own web-based productions is well within you capabilities if you are willing to make the investment in time and money.

Actually, the financial investment isn't that daunting anymore ... the fact that you are reading this page means that you already have a computer, probably reasonably new, (within the last 2 years - probably running Windows). That's great because you probably have a free program on your computer called Movie Maker that you can use to edit the videos you make.

All that remains to acquire is a camcorder with a Firewire IEEE-1394 connection and some software to convert your final edited creation into the proper format. (more on that in my newsletter)

If you already have a camcorder (Mini-DV, Firewire IEEE-1394 equipped) then like I said all you need is some file conversion software and you are in business producing and able to post your own custom videos!

Most people just don't understand the real power of YouTUBE and what it can mean for their business.

First of all YouTube can get your business GLOBAL EXPOSURE!

Once you learn how to work with YouTube and to produce your own videos there's a small army of video sharing sites where you can upload and post your video's.

Why would you want do this?

To drive traffic to your site!

That's one reason.

Even if you are a local work from home business. you can still advertise your home business on YouTube if done correctly.

If the theme of your video doesn’t quite fit in with one free sharing site, it's probably a good bet there are several others out there that will work.

Secondly, another great thing about YouTUBE and the other Free Video Sharing Services that can host your video is that they are paying for the bandwidth to serve up your video.

This could become potentially a very important point. A video that suddenly gets several hundred thousand views could either get you cut-off or run up a rather large hosting bill for you depending on how you have your hosting account set up, especially if it were running off of the same server where you have your website set-up.

So consider the free hosting for the videos a great gift from the free sharing sites ... and figure out a way to make use of them to promote your home business.

Can't think of an example of how this could work for you ... can you picture this?

Let's say ... (hypothetically), you are a small Real Estate firm in a small town trying to compete against established Good Ole Boys who control the market - in fact you are just starting up and in order to keep expenses low you work from home most of the time in order to minimize the need for rented office square footage.

In order to try and be competitive you are already cutting your commissions on prime properties to be the most competitive in the market, (Flat Rate)... what can you do to differentiate your company from all the other firms in your small town and to get your story out about what a good deal you have to offer?

  • DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE AND TELL YOUR STORY THERE - Let your target market know what a great deal you have to offer! To get a great Hosting plan for a website only costs about $15.00 per month! You can post a link to a YouTUBE promo video there about your company and if it plays 100,000 times you are still only paying $15.00 per mo. for the 100,000 sales presentations about your company!
  • PUT YOUR CLIENT'S LISTINGS ON YouTube - Show them that you are advertising their property to the Entire Planet! - they probably don't know you can do it for free! Think how much perceived value that builds in their eyes. Be Their Hero!
  • TAKE THAT SAME VIDEO YOU PUT ON YouTube - and load it on your Company website just like I'm going to show you below.
  • THEN PUT OUT SMALLER (cheaper) Teaser Ads -  in Newspaper Ads, on Radio, Classified Shoppers, Cable (which in smaller markets can be really cheap!) to get people's curiosity about the  Best Deals on ONLY the Best Properties in the area AND RE-TRAIN THE RATS (Potential Prospects - Hmmm I like Cheese!) TO COME TO YOUR WEBSITE To View Your Presentation & Listings - CAPTURE THEIR NAMES IF POSIBLE - FOR A HOME TIPS NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL - TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH THEM FOREVER!

Don't think this is realistic? ... Go to YouTube and search for "Homes For Sale" , or you might get more specific and specify an area like: "Homes For Sale, Pensacola, FL"   and see what others are doing.

Different businesses will adapt to this technology differently ... be creative!

Posting your own custom video is a skill you must learn to effectively market your business or products on the web today. Your potential customers/clients expect it.

Every work from home - home based business person can learn to do it and gain great advantage over his or her competitors who are too lazy to develop the skills to implement this new and growing area of sales - marketing.

The main difference between creating and posting your own video to your site vs. posting a YouTube video is that for a video of your own you must basically perform the following steps:

  1. Plan your video - what are you going to show and tell - how - who - etc.
  2. Shoot - sequence of shots - technical execution - acquisition of video footage
  3. Edit - Cut, Trim, Organize, Reorganize, Fix
  4. Score - Add Narration, Add Music, Clean-up Sound-Track
  5. Render /Encode - Create the Movie then convert the file into a file that will stream
  6. Embed - create the code for the file and place it in the Webpage HTML code
  7. Upload - FTP the Modified Webpage up to the server that hosts your website along with all of the resources needed to allow the video to stream properly.

With a YouTube video you are just selecting the video you want, embedding it in your website, and uploading your modified page to your server.

In other words, if you only want to put an existing YouTube video on your website you will be performing steps 6 & 7 as detailed above and I will show you how in the video that follows.

If you want to create your own original content you will perform steps 1 - 7 as listed above.

If this is not clear I will be covering more on this and producing more free videos for my newsletter subscribers to help you with this exciting source of Free Traffic.

I also have a few surprises coming so, be sure to sign-up!
